Share

Morning back pain is a common complaint that we see in the clinic and the aches & pains associated with it. It is common that the cause of Morning back pain might be difficult to determine. We hope to shed some light on this subject so let’s put it to Bed… We are often subject to achy joints and muscle pulls when we haven’t partaken in any sort of physical activity- whether it be a gym session or moving house. Our patients complain of bad backs, pulled shoulders, and twisted sides. At the Perfect Balance Back Pain Clinic, we have studied the common causes, and hopefully, with an insight into why these happen, our followers and patients can prevent these from occurring.

Are your aches and pains a result of your bed?

Morning back pain background

The average person spends about 20 years of their life in bed, yet when it comes to where we sleep, we often do not consider how our mattress can affect our bodies, especially our backs. A poor sleep routine can not only increase pain levels but decrease overall wellbeing.

The rest period that sleep provides is essential to maintain optimal body function and spinal stabilisation. A goose mattress is the difference between having a quality night’s sleep or an interrupted dose for 8 hours. A good mattress maintains the same natural spinal alignment you have when standing and balances out perfectly the gravitational loading on the body. When your body is allowed to rest in this position, your muscles are relaxed, at the correct length and sleep is more refreshing and mornings are pain-free!

Morning back pain and what to do?

You need to establish whether it’s time to purchase a new mattress. Does the mattress look frayed and worn? Is there an even layer of springs that still work? More importantly, is the mattress comfortable? These are all telltale signs that it’s time to upgrade!

Morning back pain: Are the aches still there?

Perfect Balance Clinic is the next stop. A full postural and alignment assessment will determine the cause of your complaint. A full and thorough treatment plan will then be prescribed and your complaint will vanish over the course of the treatment. However, if the mattress is the issue, it must be replaced. Your bed mattress may have been a part of your life for the last 7 years however your spine and muscles will be with you for the rest of your life!
