SENIOR PHYSIOTHERAPIST & TEAM LEADER
João Sousa
João Sousa is a highly experienced physiotherapist with a focus on musculoskeletal (MSK), sports, and orthopaedic care. Over his career, he has effectively treated clients ranging from elite athletes to patients in private hospital settings and specialised clinics. João’s experience includes providing rehabilitation for sports injuries, post-surgical recovery, and acute or chronic MSK issues. His work with high-performance athletes, including those on the Portuguese Volleyball National Team and with the Olympic Committee of Portugal, has allowed him to develop tailored rehabilitation programmes that support optimal performance and lasting recovery.
João has dedicated over ten years to physiotherapy, driven by a passion for helping people improve their physical wellbeing. His journey started with a desire to create real, positive change in people’s lives, leading him to work in both the NHS and private clinics, as well as elite sports settings. His role as a Consultant Physiotherapist involved creating personalised treatment plans for MSK, sports, and orthopaedic conditions, while his work in the NHS as a First Contact Physiotherapist focused on rapid MSK assessments and collaboration with healthcare teams. In each role, João has prioritised interdisciplinary teamwork, coordinating closely with surgeons for post-surgical care and with coaches to optimise athlete recovery and performance. João has also participated in significant international events, including the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup across several countries and the 29th and 30th Summer Universiade in Taiwan and Italy, where he supported Olympic athletes’ recovery and performance. João has published an article about the Kinesio taping technique and has delivered two oral presentations at national congresses. Having lived in Portugal, Brazil, and the United Kingdom, he brings a culturally informed perspective and a broad international outlook to his practice. Outside of work, João has a passion for travel, sports, and the arts. He has completed a half marathon, full marathon, and Swimathon and enjoys staying active across different sports. João also loves reading and spending quality time with friends and family.
