Selene Cavallaro: Senior Physiotherapist & Team Leader at Perfect Balance Clinic, Hatfield & St Albans

Meet Selene Cavallaro

Our focus at Perfect Balance Clinic is exceptional, patient-first treatment, a mission championed by Selene Cavallaro at our Hatfield & St Albans locations. Helping people recover and reduce pain is at the heart of Selene’s work, using a hands-on approach to support their journey back to full health.

After dealing with ineffective treatment that put her inline hockey on hold, Selene is determined to provide physiotherapy that truly helps her patients recover. Understanding what’s behind a condition is key to her approach, and she relies on the latest research to help her patients recover.

Selene Cavallaro’s Role and Expertise

She not only treats patients but also helps organise and manage how the clinic functions. She closely works with her team to make sure every patient receives a treatment approach that fits them best. Apart from helping patients, she takes on the responsibility of keeping clinic operations running smoothly.

With her expertise, Selene helps patients regain movement after sports injuries, MSK issues, and surgery. She has experience in assisting patients from different backgrounds, such as amputees and those healing from surgery, to restore their ability to move. Her international experience, having worked in both Italy and the UK, allows her to bring a wealth of knowledge from both healthcare systems, creating an even more effective approach to physiotherapy.

How Selene Contributes to Excellent Patient Care

She blends physical therapy with patient education to create a long-term health plan. She focuses on understanding her patients, explaining their conditions, and crafting treatment plans that aid both healing and prevention.

She uses her knowledge of recovery and sports injuries to offer the best possible treatment. Her treatments involve a mix of massage, manual therapy, and modern techniques like shockwave and K-laser therapy.

She strongly values educating her patients throughout their recovery. She believes in empowering her patients by teaching them how to manage their health beyond the clinic, ensuring they continue to thrive long after their treatment is complete.

  • During your first visit, Selene or one of our experienced physiotherapists will:

  • Perform a physical assessment, including tests for range of motion, strength, and flexibility
  • Explain their findings and provide a prognosis
  • Refer you for further investigation or perform an ultrasound scan if needed

  • Most first consultations last about 45 minutes.
  • Follow-ups generally last 30 minutes unless additional care is required.

Our team offers various treatment methods to support recovery, including:

  • Massage therapy (to reduce muscle tension and improve circulation)
  • Manual Therapy (METS) (to improve joint mobility and promote healing)
  • Ultrasound therapy (for soft tissue injury healing)
  • K-laser therapy (to promote cell regeneration and reduce inflammation)
  • Shockwave therapy (for tendon and muscle issues)
  • Dry needling (for muscular trigger points)
  • Taping (e.g., kinesiology taping for pain management and support)

Some insurance plans cover physiotherapy, while others do not. The NHS might have other solutions if private physiotherapy isn’t included.

Treatment length varies based on your health and how your body heals. Typically, it takes 6–10 sessions for patients to feel noticeable relief. Certain conditions take longer to improve and may need extra sessions.

Check our online profiles to decide which physiotherapist you prefer. Not sure who to see? Our reception team can recommend the right physiotherapist.

Choose flexible clothing to allow free movement during your session. If you have a leg injury, shorts are best; for upper body injuries, a vest or loose top works well.

Some treatments may cause a little discomfort, especially when working on stiff areas. However, the treatment should not cause intense pain. If it does, let your physiotherapist know.

Book an appointment by visiting our website or dialing 0800 0724012. Appointments should be canceled at least a day in advance.

Temporary soreness is normal after deep tissue work or certain exercises. A few patients feel slightly dizzy after therapy, but this should clear up soon.

We handle all patient information with strict confidentiality. We take extra care to protect your information and ensure private treatment spaces.

We take appointments from Monday to Saturday, based on our daily schedule. We take Sunday bookings from 8 AM to 3:30 PM. If you need a weekend session, try to book ahead as spots are limited.

A custom exercise plan will be made for you to support your treatment. Your therapist will demonstrate the exercises and record them for you to follow at home.
