What is Gait Analysis?

The process of gait analysis is the assessment of the way in which a person walks. In order to do this, a number of different tools are employed – video analysis, pressure plate analysis, along with observation and interpretation by our team of highly skilled and experienced specialists.

In Pressure Plate Analysis, we use innovative technology to identify any problems involving abnormal foot pressures and movements that happen when a person is walking; these issues would be impossible to detect with the naked eye alone. In conjuction with this technology, we also carry out a physical and treadmill examination in order to form an accurate diagnosis of conditions involving the lower limbs.

    Why is Gait Analysis important?

If you have even a seemingly minor problem which has started to develop in your feet, this will result in subtle changes in the manner in which you walk, which will in turn cause a chain reaction of adjustments in your posture and your walking mechanism. These changes can lead to the development of even more serious issues, due to the fact that these adjustments that you make will put stress on joints higher up your body.

We treat these issues with the use of orthotics (supportive shoe inserts) and also specific exercises, which together are able to minimise these abnormal movements and therefore the associated stresses. Our specialists are able to make the right decision in regards to your treatment by the use of our bio-mechanical assessment.
