SHOCKWAVE THERAPY
Reduce Inflammation, Pain And Restore Movement
In our Perfect Balance Clinic in Welwyn Garden City, we treat patients using shockwave therapy, in order to speed up the healing of tendon injuries, and it works especially well in patients for whom other forms of treatment have not worked.
What Are The Most Common Conditions
We Treat With Shockwaves?
Here is a List of the Most Common Conditions we Regularly Treat With Shockwave Therapy
Our patients have rediscovered pain-free movement after treatment for these debilitating conditions:
Tennis Elbow – This very common, painful condition is the result of inflammation of a tendon attachment on the lateral elbow
Painful Shoulder Conditions – These are often very stubborn, but treatment with shockwaves can restore pain-free movement
Golfer’s Elbow – This is another very painful condition, which involves an inflamed tendon which attaches to the medial elbow
Hip Bursitis (Bursitis Trochanterica) – You can experience pain relief from this
Patella Tip Syndrome – This is caused by inflammation of the point of attachment of the patellar ligament of the knee, and shockwaves can relieve the pain
Shin Splints – This is very common in runners as it is due to excessive strain, and is the result of inflammation of the tibial edge, but you can recover from this.
Achilles Tendonitis – This describes an irritation of the Achilles tendon, and shockwaves can speed up the healing from this
Plantar Fasciitis – You can walk freely again without the heel pain and inflammation of this condition
What To Expect From
Shockwave Therapy Treatment
First of all, before any treatment commences, your therapist will have a discussion with you, in order to locate the source of pain. This area will then be marked for treatment with shockwaves. Then, before the shockwaves are applied, a gel is rubbed on to your skin so that the contact between your skin and the application device is optimised. During treatment, the device that is held by the therapist delivers pulsations to the area of pain for only a few minutes, depending upon the condition being treated. These energy waves then stimulate your body’s own natural healing response.
Is Shockwave Therapy Right For Me?
No, the treatment itself is entirely painless. You may experience some minor discomfort in the muscle for one or two days following your treatment. This happens due to the way in which the shockwave therapy works, by causing micro-injury to the muscle, and it is this micro-injury that stimulates it to repair itself to full health. This is also how weight training works to strengthen muscles. Most of our patients, however, report few or no problems whatsoever after treatment.
How Do I Know if it is Right for Me?
All therapists at Perfect Balance Clinics are highly ethical, and before any treatment is given they will always ensure that Shockwave Therapy is appropriate for you and your condition. Shockwave treatment can and does produce amazing results, however, we must be completely sure that you are the right candidate for the treatment and that there are no contraindications.
Who Will Perform The Treatment?
Your treatment is given by a professional therapist who has been trained in delivering shockwave therapy to specific parts of the body. All our practitioners perform a full medical history on our patients before treatment, so they know the correct clinical indication for the use of shockwave therapy on the injured part of your body.
How Many Treatments Do I Need?
Normally, only between one and three sessions are needed, depending on which condition is being treated. Any more than that in a set period of time is not indicated and may in fact hamper the healing process, so for this reason our standard package offer includes three sessions.
Contraindications to Having Shockwave
