Michael Venom Page: Being Punched is Like Being in a Car Accident!
At the Perfect Balance Clinic we have treated kickboxer, cage fighter and mixed martial artist Michael Venom Page. Michael is recognised in the MMA community for his unorthodox fighting style, which is from freestyle kickboxing and sport karate. Combat sport athletes frequently suffer from traumatic injuries, and being punched in the face would feel very similar to being in a car accident. The resulting neck injury is the same; chronic whiplash.
What Is Whiplash?
Whiplash is an injury to the neck that occurs frequently as a result of a car accident which involves sudden acceleration or deceleration. This causes the neck and head to be forcibly moved forwards then backwards, or vice versa, outside the normal range of motion. What follows is a neck sprain or strain, which we call whiplash. Many whiplash injuries occur after an impact to the rear end of the vehicle. The resulting injury usually affects the nerves, discs, muscles and tendons of the neck.
As well as treating recent whiplash injuries, we also see many patients who have suffered for years with a chronic whiplash injury that has never been successfully treated, leading to years of suffering and loss of quality of life. After seeing us, these patients are also delighted to be free from pain and other unpleasant symptoms.
What Are The Symptoms of Whiplash?
Chronic whiplash is a very debilitating injury which causes ongoing pain and other problems, including:
- neck pain
- stiffness in the neck
- shoulder pain
- lower back pain
- pain in the arms or hands
- numbness in the arms or hands
- dizziness
- ringing in the ears
- blurred vision
- insomnia
- irritability
- problems with concentration or memory
- tiredness
Many of these symptoms are similar to those of other conditions, and whiplash needs to be correctly diagnosed so that a successful treatment plan can be started.
